Bask in the cultural heritage and art scene in Baguio

Apart from the cool Christmas-like breeze, Baguio is known for its thriving art scene, and cultural destinations.

Baguio City is known as home of local artists ranging from crafts, folk arts expressions, street arts, and many more.

Ili-Likha Artists’ Wateringhole

Like Alice in Wonderland’s rabbit hole, one won’t imagine a wondrous creative space like Ili-Likha Artists’ Wateringhole nestled near the busy streets of the famous Session Road. Once you go inside, you are transported into an other-worldly maze-like tree village, adorned with a visual treat of wood art pieces, stained glass art, sculptures, mixed medium art pieces, and more. This multi-level eco-art complex boasts a theater, live performance area, shops, restaurants, and specialty cafes. There are around eight options to dine in. Vegetarians would love the Scout Burrows’ honest-to-goodness vegetabuns. Dairy lovers will fawn over the cheese and yoghurt snacks and dishes over at Yomichee Snackhouse, such as Yoghurt Bowl and Float, Cottage Cheese Dumplings, and a snack platter. The Café and art studio Kapi Kullaaw, on the other hand, is a cozy space to enjoy specialty coffees and teas. The brainchild of National Artist and renowned film director Eric de Guia aka Kidlat Tahimik, this art meets dining gem is a haven for artists and foodies alike, and is a definite must-see.

Tam-awan Village

Another must-see place in Baguio is the Tam-awan Village, an art and cultural center by the Chanum Foundation founded in 1998. With the aim to showcase the work of local artists, and at the same time, promote the Cordillera heritage through cultural activities, expect several exhibits, live performances, and festivals frequently held in this village. Immerse yourself in the Cordillera culture and discover Ifugao huts and Kalinga houses made from original materials, all of which also serve as lodging for travelers.

Also, an interactive museum, you can explore the village and witness Cordillera craftsmanship in several of its galleries, featuring masterpieces from both budding and seasoned artists. Enjoy the surrounding flora and fauna while exploring this big space. At the end of the day, take a rest at the Tam-Awan Village Café and enjoy warm drinks and try native Cordilleran cuisine.

Before visiting, make sure to check out their website, to see the list of their events lineup for the week, to make the most out of your visit.
